Our space

Our space is designed to provide comfort in a welcoming environment.

We understand that the time between a death and the funeral can be challenging.

Our goal is to offer a place where you can connect with others and the person. Whether you’re gathering with family and friends, spending time to say goodbye, doing creative activities: there are many ways our space can used.

Intimate ceremonies

Having time and space between the moment of death and the funeral day can be important to those who are grieving. We understand the healing power that ceremonies and gatherings can have during this time. We are open minded and willing to adapt to your particular situation.

Gathering place

Somewhere to meet on the funeral day to journey to the funeral together. There may be family members who have travelled far, only arriving in Brighton on the funeral day.

The first time you see the coffin can be a reality-check moment. We can make time for you to see the coffin here before we make our way to the funeral so that you don’t have to have this moment in such a public setting.

Chapel of rest

We encourage spending time with the person who has died.

You are welcome to use this space for your own vigils – spending some time with your person, bringing them gifts, listening to some music.

Visiting a person in our care can be arranged in advance for individuals or small groups.

We have supported people to give their person one last gentle massage. Some people come to say their words aloud before the funeral ceremony, reading them to their person.

Creative sessions

You can visit us in the lead up to the funeral to decorate the coffin, or to otherwise prepare for the funeral, perhaps by arranging flowers and photographs. We can help you to mobilise a community around the person who has died.

Therapies and talking

We can host therapist-facilitated sessions. We enjoy playing home to other events related to the funeral world and the death conversation, such as Death Cafés. Get in touch if you are interested, or have an idea.
