We’re delighted to announce that The Modern Funeral will be hosting Pioneer Arts for this special event as part of Brighton’s annual Artists Open Houses festival.
For four weekends in May, our bright and welcoming meeting space, located beside Preston Park railway station, will be transformed into a gallery showcasing powerful and expressive artwork created by talented artists with a learning disability and/or with autism. This is a very exciting step as we open our doors to artists, visitors and friends for a celebration of creativity.

About Pioneer Arts and Grace Eyre
The exhibition is curated by Pioneer Arts, an online gallery platform that highlights the work of artists supported by Grace Eyre, a Brighton-based charity with a long and respected history of empowering people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. Grace Eyre has been championing community-based support and creative opportunity since 1898.
The artists featured in this exhibition are part of the charity’s Pioneer Arts programme, which gives individuals the tools, training and space to create and share their work on their own terms.
Visitors can expect a rich and varied collection of work, spanning media such as printmaking, fine art, photography, mosaics, textiles, film and sound design.
Every piece tells its own story, some personal, some playful. Whether you’re a regular on the Open Houses trail or new to the scene, this exhibition is one not to miss.
Support the artists
Alongside viewing the exhibition, you’ll have the opportunity to support both the artists and Grace Eyre by purchasing original artwork, as well as handmade t-shirts and greeting cards. All proceeds go directly towards funding the artists’ ongoing practice and the charity’s creative initiatives.
